Engineering examples from history

engineering games and puzzles

There have been many examples of engineering throughout history, ranging from ancient monuments all the way to modern technology. Imhotep is credited with the construction of the Saqqara step pyramid by ancient Egyptians. Imhotep built the step pyramid in Saqqara in the third millennium BC. The Egyptians deified him later. This ancient Egyptian engineer may be familiar to you, but did know that he was also an Egyptian deified god.

Ancient engineering monuments

Many monuments of ancient engineering are evidence of the human abilities. Ancient Egyptian civil and military engineer are represented by the pyramids in Egypt, the ziggurats at Mesopotamia and Pharos from Alexandria. The Acropolis and cities of Indus Valley civilization are two other examples of ancient engineering monuments. Monuments like the Colosseum and Acropolis were left by ancient Roman and Greek engineers. The impressive structures built by Mayan civil engineers include the drainage systems and aqueducts at Teotihuacan (Mexico). Al-Jazari was a Turkish engineering monument. It featured five water pumps that were used by the Artuqid dynasty's kings. Other engineers, like Mechanics, developed the concepts of gears, escapement mechanisms, and

Mechanical engineering in the early days

The 5th century BC in Mesopotamia is the beginning of mechanical engineering. The field has expanded greatly over the years, encompassing everything from automobiles to energy conversion to microelectromechanical systems. The history of mechanical engineers reveals that it wasn't as simple as it seems today. Mechanical engineering has influenced many aspects of our lives, regardless of whether you're interested in automobiles or manufacturing equipment.

The beginning of electrical engineering

The relationship between electrical engineers and the government was particularly complicated after World War I. Although radio was used for communication during wartime, this new technology required strict government regulation. In 1917, the United States government seized control of all radio stations. The United States argued that the radio spectrum was far too valuable to let go. This led to a technological boom that transformed the way we communicate. You can now see the history of electricity in New York City, and other places.

Radio technology at the beginning

Radios were initially used for simplex communications in the early 1900s. Morse Code is a code similar to that used for writing and used to send messages. These communications were only one-way and could not be heard over the other. Although radios were limited in their capabilities, the concept of sending electric waves over large distances was revolutionary. Without a new technology, long-distance phone lines were not possible.

Early electric generators

The early electric generator was a marvel of engineering that made it possible to produce electrical power with a small amount of work. Hydroelectric power was first explored in the Sierra Nevada hydraulic mines during the 1880s. Almarian Decker (an engineer for the Brush arc lights who had moved from England to California because he was ill with tuberculosis) integrated generation and transmission into the first alternate-current three-phase power plant in Redlands in 1893.

In the West, early electrical engineering

The history of electrical engineering dates back to the 19th century. Alexander Graham Bell & Thomas Edison were among the pioneers of electrical engineering. This was the time when electricity spread quickly. These two men became pioneers in the field. The electrical industry's growth changed the world. Many governments began to employ electrical engineers. While the TVA was most notable of all the government initiatives in this sector, local governments also provided power and services.

what is an engineering

Early electrical engineering in Santa Clara

Santa Clara University's School of Engineering was founded in 1912. They began offering bachelor's degree programs. The school later added doctoral and master's degree programs to its offerings. Today, the school covers the entire Silicon Valley. The school offers many programs in electrical engineering, including advanced degrees. There are also many opportunities to network and continue education. It is the only national association of professionals that is dedicated to electric engineering.

The beginning of electrical engineering in England

England was the birthplace of electrical engineering. Many of those who pioneered the field of electrical engineering came from the UK including George Stephenson, Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Thomas Telford. In 1821, Michael Faraday demonstrated the conversion of electrical energy into mechanical energy. This was a significant milestone in the field's development. Not only did these pioneers make the field possible, but many other people contributed to its development.

Electrical engineering was developed in the United States early on.

While electricity isn't a new technology in itself, it was deemed necessary for many jurisdictions. It was the government that began to be responsible for providing electricity and communication to citizens. This area is best known for the TVA, but other examples exist. Outside of the USA, government control of power and communication was the norm. As a result of technological advancements, electrical engineers began realizing the importance to advance their field.

FAQ

How long does it take to become an Engineer?

There are many routes to engineering. Some people decide to start learning immediately after finishing high school. Other people go to college later.

Some students will choose to enter a degree program right out of high school. Others will opt for a foundation program that lasts two years.

They may then continue to a three-year or four-year honors programme. A master's degree could be an option.

It is important to consider your future plans once you have graduated. Do you plan to continue in education or enter the workforce?

The time taken to complete each stage will vary depending on what university you go and whether you're taking a full or part-time course.

It is important to note that there is not always a direct relationship between how long it took to complete a particular qualification, and how much experience you have once you graduate. Even if your college experience is only for one year, it doesn’t mean that you’ll be able to apply the same skills in the workplace as engineers.

What is the most difficult engineering degree?

Computer science is the most challenging engineering field because you have learn everything from scratch. Also, you must be able to think creatively.

You will need to be able to understand programming languages such as C++ Java, Python JavaScript PHP HTML CSS SQL SQL XML and many other.

It is also important to understand how computers work. You will need to know about hardware, software architectures and operating systems.

Computer Science is a great option if you are interested in becoming an engineer.

What is a typical day like for an engineer?

Engineers often spend their time working with projects. These projects may involve developing new products or improving existing ones.

They may work on research projects that aim to improve the world around us.

They could also be involved creating new technologies such computers, mobile phones and planes, rockets, or other devices.

Engineers have to use imagination and creativity in order to achieve these tasks. Engineers must think outside of the box to find innovative solutions to problems.

They will be expected to brainstorm ideas and create concepts. They will also need tools like 3D printers or laser cutters as well as CNC machines and computer-aided design software to test and verify their ideas and prototypes.

Engineers must communicate effectively with others to express their ideas. Engineers need to create presentations and reports in order share their findings among colleagues and clients.

They will also need to be efficient with their time to accomplish the most work in the shortest time possible.

No matter which type of engineering you choose to do, you will need to be creative, innovative, analytical, and well-organized.

How To

How to read engineering diagrams

Engineering drawings are a visual representation of an object. You can find many elements within them, such as dimensions, symbols or text. Since ancient times engineering drawings have been in existence. The 3000 BC mark was when the first known drawing was made by an Egyptian engineer. They are used by engineers to design things like bridges, buildings and machines.

Engineers use engineering drawings to describe what something looks and feels like. This helps others to understand what you are talking about. Engineers make things by using symbols and numbers to measure. This makes it simple for people with no engineering knowledge.

There are two main types, 2D (or 3D) of engineering drawings.

2D drawings are flat representations for three-dimensional objects. These include plans and sections, elevation views and axonometric projecteds.

3D drawings can be used to show real-life objects at multiple angles. They are most often created with computer software. SketchUp is a program that allows you to visualize the structure of a bridge from above. Next, choose "View" and "Top View." Then rotate your view until all of it is displayed from above.

2D drawings are best viewed as a whole. Don't just focus on one part. Be sure to look at the entire area, even if it is just in one corner.
